Eastrail – Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation, Hong Kong

Atkins was commissioned to study the location, height and engineering design of noise barriers along 30 miles of heavily used railway carrying commuter, passenger express and goods trains between Hong Kong and mainland China.  The railway corporation was required to meet stringent noise targets at lineside dwellings, many of which were tower blocks.  Atkins used RailNoise to model the whole length of railway and to select the optimum length, height and form of noise barriers. The photograph shows a length of noise barrier and partial enclosure during construction.
